Warm-water support

The airbed and water support your body so you can rest without holding a floor position for the full session.

Guided from beginning to end

The team explains the equipment, helps everyone settle and brings the experience to a gradual close.

Immersive sound around the water

Crystal bowls and gentle sound travel through the room while you float, creating a distinctive sense of depth and space.

How it works

From guided meditation into deep floating rest

After a welcome and safety explanation, you settle onto your own floating airbed. The session begins with guided meditation to help your attention move away from the day. As the room becomes quiet, crystal bowls and other gentle instruments are played around the water, allowing the sound to arrive from different directions.

The aim is not to make you sleep or produce a particular emotional response. It is to create conditions in which your muscles can soften and your thoughts can become less demanding. The session finishes slowly, often with a gentle grounding element, so there is no abrupt transition back into the rest of your day.

Floating versus floor-based

Why the water changes the experience

In a conventional sound bath you usually rest on a mat or supportive floor setup. During a floating sound bath the warm water carries the airbed beneath you. People who struggle to become comfortable on the floor can find this physical support helpful, while others choose it because the combination of sound and water feels especially immersive.

It is still a calm, guided group experience rather than a swimming session. The individual event page explains the equipment, venue and suitability information. If you have limited mobility, water anxiety, pregnancy or a health condition that may affect participation, contact Mayan Retreats before booking.

Before you arrive

Practical preparation for your session

Check your chosen event page for the exact start time and arrive early enough to hear the safety briefing. Wear or bring what the event instructions recommend and avoid rushing into the venue at the last moment. The team will explain how to use the floating equipment before the sound journey begins.

Floating sound baths are wellbeing experiences, not medical treatment. You remain responsible for following the venue guidance and sharing any relevant concerns before the session. Questions can be sent to hello@mayanretreats.co.uk.

I have done a couple of retreats, floating sound bath, sauna and sea dips. All of them have been a great experience.

Cannot recommend Mayan Retreats highly enough. The value for money is without doubt. The retreats are so diverse, deeply relaxing and fulfilling. Lucy prioritises your health and wellbeing above all else and words do not do the benefits justice. I usually go on my own and I genuinely never feel out of place. The floating sound bath was deeply relaxing, the sauna and sea dip were raw and powerful, and my most recent indoor retreat was so much more than breathwork, meditation and a soundbath. I have benefited so much from Lucy's knowledge, guidance and support. Her genuine nature is next level, and the quality and value for money each time has blown me away.
